Arizona Trail Passages
This award program rewards hikers for miles hiked on the first 20 passages of the Arizona Trail starting at the Mexican border and ending at the Pigeon Spring Trail Head in the Four Peaks area.
The Arizona Trail Awards are created to encourage club members to enjoy the beauty of this trail as it travels from the Huachuca Mountains northward through the Santa Rita, Rincon, Catalina and Superstition mountain ranges. There are 368 miles of trails in these passages. There will be patches awarded for 50, 100, and 200 miles hiked on these passages. A plaque will be presented for 350 miles. Completed lists can be given to the Chief Guide to receive the appropriate award.
To earn an award a member must hike the minimum number of miles, as stated above, only on the Arizona Trail. No credit is given for the miles hiked to get to the trail or the miles hiked when leaving the trail to return to the cars. Repeat hikes on the same section of a passage receive no credit. To receive credit the hike must be a SAHC club hike. Multi-day hikes with the object to hike a long passage or several passages will receive credit. Only hikes completed after 01/01/2014 will qualify; there will be no grandfather clause for this award.
An excellent reference for both guides and club hikers is the Arizona Trail Association web site http://www.aztrail.org . Guides who wish to participate in this award program need to do the following when scheduling a hike that will earn AZ trail miles: Enter AZ Trail in the Hike Type field and in the Hike Description field include the from-to portion of the hike that you will be on the AZ trail, and the total miles earned. Example: We will be hiking Passage 2, from the Parker Canyon Lake T.H. to the Trap Tank, and will earn 3.8 AZT miles. This will allow the hikers who were with you to record and track the AZT miles they have earned.
