More Winter Picnic News

I am sorry to say that the Southern Arizona Hiking Club Winter Picnic was canceled. The road into Catalina State Park crosses a wash that was flooded, causing a significant load of sand to wash onto the road, and park officials have closed the road.

I looked at alternatives with Sally Gauthier and Mike Harris for the day of the picnic, and the near future for postponing the Winter Picnic to another date. None of the alternatives gave us enough upside due to current weather conditions.

As a result, we will meet as a board this week to discuss what happened. At this time, my thoughts are to save what we can of the Winter Picnic food and have a bigger celebration at our SAHC Spring Picnic, including awards. The board will communicate further information soon.

Summit Hut’s spring sale event

Dear Hiking Friends-I’m looking for several people to help man the SAHC table at Summit Hut’s spring sale event on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8 from 8 am to 6 pm.  Please consider taking a 2-4 hour shift.  Lunch is provided if you take that shift. You would be handing out SAHC brochures and talking about our club to anyone interested. You could corral a friend or relative to sit with you and browse the sale for bargains. Please phone me at 296-3128 or email me at if you can help.  THANKS!!!

eHike Notifications

The new design of the SAHC website does not allow emailing of the Hike Submission form.  The same Hike Submission form is used for eHikes and Bulletin hikes, when submitted the hike information is submitted to a hike database.  One key advantage of this design is members now only have to look in one location on the website for Current Hikes.  Technically there are no eHikes, all hikes are now Current Hikes.  It was decided that the word eHike would precede the title of the hike to make it easier for members to view hikes that are not printed in the Bulletin.  As a result of the new design eHike Notifications can no longer be sent out.  To make sure you do not miss any hikes you may be interested in please check the Current Hikes page on a regular basis.  To view eHikes only you may do a custom hike search by entering the word eHikes in the hike title field, only Current Hikes with eHike in the Hike Title will be returned.
